Five Magical Tactics to Master Momentum

It pays to have the power of momentum on your side whether you’re running an Olympic race or just trying to get your business moving forward. See how the laws of physics can help you reach your goals faster.

You may have heard of Isaac Newton’s Law of Inertia: An object in motion tends to stay in motion. An object at rest tends to stay at rest. That’s also true for people.

Try these 5 sure-fire techniques to propel yourself towards more success by taking advantage of this law of nature.

1. The Journey of thousand miles begins with one single step. The initial step of any project can be the hardest of all. Pat yourself on the back for taking the initiative. This means the worst is out of the way! You’re on your way to fulfilling your wishes. Even if you make mistakes along the way, you can learn from every one of them.

2. The Early bird catches the worm. Use your morning hours wisely. Rack up at least two accomplishments before breakfast. You can sort through your emails, schedule social media posts, or prepare correspondence in record time when interruptions are fewer.

3. Break projects down. Simplify complicated tasks. If you’re developing a new course, write down the components of the course and use them as milestones. For example: target audience, objectives/goals, topic, subtopics or key points, conclusion, course summary, references, course title. Once it’s broken down into milestones, complete one milestone at a time, and before you know it, the bigger project is done!

4. Create opportunities to win. Small wins lead to big victories. Feel like a hero by getting a few simple victories under your belt. It will inspire you to keep striving for more.

5. Identify obstacles. Anticipating roadblocks helps you to plan around them. For instance, if you know your day is busiest when your spouse or kids are home and this creates distractions for you, either complete the bulk of your work while they are at work and school, or plan to use a study room at the library. Or schedule a fun Friday with grandma and have dinner already cooked and a video ready to watch with popcorn.
